This is the main identity theft offering by Equifax® although they have a slightly scaled down service called Credit Watch Gold™ which has their company monitor your 3 credit bureau reports and alert you of any significant changes.  With this said, most people choose the identity theft protection offered by Equifax ID Patrol Review™ which offers a few additional services.

Equifax®, the company or Equifax, Inc. was founded over 100 years ago and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.  The company is well known as being a global leader in information solutions and runs one of the three major credit bureaus.

Equifax® is quick to note that identity theft is escalating showing that one in five families has been a victim of identity theft.  This is one reason why they have added this product to their services.

Product Description 

The ID Patrol™ team offers a service that provides several different things:

1.  You can protect your identity by locking your Equifax Credit File™.  This allows you to keep anyone from being able to access your file and when the time comes you need it to be opened for say a car or home loan, you can contact Equifax® to do so and then close it again. 

2.  The ID Patrol™ team monitors internet information trading sites for your personal information including your social security number and credit card information.  If your information is found, they will send you an alert allowing you to make appropriate changes.

3.  The team monitors your three credit files and alerts you of any key changes in 24 hours.  This allows you to see if anything suspicious is occurring. 

4.  You are given an identity theft resolution specialist whom you can contact 24 hours, 7 days a week to take any necessary steps to prevent fraud.

5.  Your service is backed by a 1,000,000 insurance amount for any damages if your identity is stolen.

This service is currently being billed at $14.95 per month and the Credit Watch Gold™ service is billed for under $11.00. 

Benefits 

• The main company runs one of the credit reporting services making it easier for them to monitor their own report.
• Company has an established reputation and proven track record with dealing with credit fraud and information.

Drawbacks 

• Equifax® is only one of the three credit reports bureaus.
• Large size of the company may prove to be an obstacle to providing top service compared to smaller companies that are focused solely on id theft.

Personal Review 

Equifax Identity Patrol™ appears to offer a solid service that has to rank up there with the top companies in the niche.  The advantage of being one of the three main credit bureaus is a bonus for having more control over that one report.  However, I am not sure how significant an advantage this is.  As this is a relatively new service, it will be interesting to see how it fairs with customers.
